Summary
According to the National Down Syndrome Society , every person has a nucleus; which is where the genetic data is stored (NDSS). Usually a person has 23 pairs of chromosomes. When you have Down Syndrome, you have a partial or full set of additional chromosomes (NDSS). This, of course, new set of chromosomes contributes to the characteristics included with Down Syndrome. Individuals with Down Syndrome usually have low muscle tone, small stature, upward slant towards the eyes, and a single inward crease in the center of the palm. You may also have a short neck and a flattened face. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development says that Down Syndrome mostly affects your physical appearance. But Down Syndrome also affects the way you learn, because you may be a slow learner, have a short attention span, poor judgement and impulsive behavior. But Down Syndrome is fortunately not a fatal genetic mishap.
